Cuomo

Paolo Cuomo deals mainly with Intellectual Property and competition law, as well as corporate and banking law. He provides legal consultancy and assistance, in and out of court, mainly in the areas of copyright law, antitrust law, corporate law and commercial law in general.

He is Associate Professor (professore associato) of commercial law at the University of Udine, where he teaches courses on Intellectual property and competition law, both in Italian and English. He taught commercial law for several years at the University of Salento, and held courses on intellectual property and big data at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.

He has carried out research activities both in Italy and abroad, in particular at the Max Planck Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht in Hamburg and at the Max Planck Institut für Innovation und Wettbewerb in Munich.

He was awarded the scientific qualification for full professorship in commercial law in the 2018-2020 round, with unanimous approval of the committee.

He obtained his PhD in domestic and international commercial law from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan in 2010.

He graduated in Law in 2004 from the University of Lecce with 110/110 cum laude and invitation to continue his studies, discussing a thesis in commercial law.

He has been admitted to the legal profession since 2008.

He is the author of two monographs: one on corporate and insolvency law (Il controllo societario da credito, Giuffrè, 2013), the other on patent and antitrust law (La contitolarità del brevetto tra cooperazione e concorrenza, Giappichelli, 2020).

He has also published numerous articles and judgment notes in the various fields of commercial law in the most important national scientific journals. These include, among others: Gestione mutualistica e parità di trattamento nelle cooperative, in Riv. soc. 2013; Liberalizzazione del mercato dell’intermediazione dei diritti d’autore e rappresentatività degli organismi di gestione collettiva, in NLCC 2019; Il consiglio di amministrazione e la gestione dell’impresa nel codice di corporate governance, in Riv. soc. 2021; Il “caso Tercas”: ovvero di salvataggi bancari, sistemi di garanzia dei depositi e dei pericoli del conceptualismo nell’applicazione nel diritto della concorrenza, in Banca borsa tit. cred. 2022.

He regularly holds seminars and lectures in the context of master’s and postgraduate courses. These include, among others, the lectures on corporate groups and debt covenants held annually as part of the Master in Corporate Governance organised by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, as well as the lectures on copyright law for PhD students at the University of Udine.

He collaborates with several scientific journals as a referee (Banca, Borsa e Titoli di Credito) and as a member of the editorial board (Le Nuove Leggi Civili Commentate).

He is a member of the scientific association Orizzonti del Diritto Commerciale.

He is fluent in English and German.
