Paolo Cuomo

Professor Paolo Cuomo specializes in intellectual property and competition law , as well as corporate and banking law . He provides consultancy and assistance, both in and out of court, primarily in the areas of copyright, antitrust, corporate, and general commercial law.

He is an associate professor of commercial law at the University of Udine, where he teaches courses on intellectual property and competition law, as well as corporate law for innovative enterprises, in both Italian and English. He taught commercial law for several years at the University of Salento and has taught courses on intellectual property and big data at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.

He has carried out research both in Italy and abroad, in particular at the Max Planck Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht in Hamburg, as well as at the Max Planck Institut für Innovation und Wettbewerb in Munich.

He obtained the scientific qualification to act as full professor of commercial law in the 2018-2020 session, with a unanimous decision from the commission.

He obtained a PhD in domestic and international commercial law from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan in 2010.

He graduated in Law in 2004 from the University of Lecce with 110/110 cum laude and was invited to continue his studies, discussing a thesis in commercial law.

He has been licensed to practice law since 2008.

He is the author of two monographs : one on corporate and insolvency law ( Corporate credit control , Giuffrè, 2013), the other on patent and antitrust law ( Co-ownership of patents between cooperation and competition , Giappichelli, 2020).

He has also published numerous articles and case notes in various areas of commercial law in leading national scientific journals. Among others, these include: Mutual management and equal treatment in cooperatives, in Riv. soc. 2013; Liberalization of the copyright intermediation market and representativeness of collective management organizations , in NLCC 2019; The board of directors and company management in the corporate governance code , in Riv. soc. 2021; The "Tercas case": or bank bailouts, deposit guarantee systems, and the dangers of conceptualism in their application in competition law , in Banca borsa tit. cred. 2022; Collective licenses with extended effect in the new art. 180-ter lda , in NLCC 2023.

He regularly holds seminars and lectures for master's and postgraduate courses . Among his most notable achievements are the lectures on corporate groups and debt covenants held annually as part of the Master's in Corporate Governance organized by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, as well as the lectures on copyright law for doctoral students at the University of Udine.

He collaborates with several scientific journals as a referee ( Banca, Borsa e Titoli di Credito ) and as a member of the editorial board ( Le Nuove Leggi Civili Commentate ).

He is a member of the scientific association Orizzonti del Diritto Commerciale , as well as of the scientific association Gian Franco Campobasso .
