In his contribution, Attorney Giombini offers an in-depth look at the Benefit Corporation model, ten years after the introduction of the legislation that made it possible for Italy to adopt it, the first European country and second in the world after the United States.
Benefit corporations today represent a rapidly expanding business model, capable of combining profit generation with the pursuit of common-benefit goals, benefiting individuals, communities, regions, and the environment. According to the 2025 National Survey, these entities numbered over 4,500, with over 217,000 employees and a total production equivalent to 2.21 TP3T of the national total.
The model stands out for its governance, which balances the interests of members and other stakeholders, as well as for its transparent and measurable reporting system for its impact. This approach is proving particularly suitable for SMEs, thanks to their deep-rooted connection to their local communities.
